"A woman who can see my son as I see him is a woman I will gladly call my daughter," Johara said, extending her arms to embrace Sahra. "I would have you as my husband, Ya'qub ibn Wahid al Kadir, and honor you till my dying day." Ya'qub exhales the deep breath he took upon completing his little "speech." The gap-toothed merchant smiles broadly at the scene, the gaps in his teeth seeimg wider than ever before. Here was a happy caravaneer. He had everything he had ever wanted: wealth, prestige, honor, his family comfortable, and a good woman to share everything with. His father would be proud of his only son just now. Ya'qub's mind wandered back to the memories of his father. The smile flickered for just an instant, barely even present. Then it was back, in full force. Ya'qub raised his cup. "To Wahid ibn Yusuf al Kadir - my father of blessed memory!" His voice almost choked.

"Excuse me. I do not mean to intrude in this most glorious of moments, but I would like to repay the kindness you have shown me since you rescued me from the clutches of those vile desert nomads. If it would be acceptable, I would like to pay for your wedding, all of it." Ya'qub looked up at Waleed, suprised. "I - Well, I don't know!" he gasped. "I'm taken aback by your generosity! May Fate bless you a thousand times over! "However, such an offer has never been made before, and I must consult with my family, as well my Bride before I may give you an answer. I hope you will not think me importune"

She turned back and saw Yaqub. "So, my friend.. for when is the wedding planned then? "As soon as possible!" Was the enthusiastic reply. "Already Ya'qub's mind was racing with the details. There must be a procession, yes, he thought, a procession through the streets of Tajar, to announce the happy couple. Then feasting. He smiled broadly at that. Much feasting, for several days. "Hmm." Ya'qub's face screwed up in concentration as he considered the details. "Well, there will be several days of feasting, possibly a week or so. I'm certain that you would not be missed too much during the revelry. Believe me, I understand the value of home." He added, looking at his mother and Sahra discussing what the bride should wear. "Where is 'over there?' I am curious. In the time we have known one another, you have not spoken of your home much. I would like to know about the place that produced such a strong and courageous woman."

"Well, no other than Huzuz, City of Delights.. it is probably one of the most welcoming places I have seen, if you got the money of course.. and full of opportunities for any good merchant.. I am certainly sure you will find no luck of business over there" then she gives you a smile.

Waleed bowed to the master of the house and slowly backed away to rejoin his harem. Upon his return he slipped back into the comfortable graces of his bodyguards and said to them, "We may be staying here in Tajar awhile, perhaps tomorrow we should go out and look for a place to stay, someplace nice, umm?" His smile reached his eyes, all thoughts of home were far away and he was content, for now.

"I have just heard the wonderful news, effendi!" a smiling, bright-eyed Salah ad-din says to Ya'qub having found him in a rare moment of quiet. "I would be honored to witness such a blessed union," He continues with a deep bow of respect. "But as I have only recently come into your company, perhaps it would not be appropriate for me to attend the wedding."

Turning to Salah, he adds "And you, noble Salah ad-din (such an honorable name!), if Fahad the Magnificent, the Generous recommends you then you are welcome in my home at any time. "There is no time to waste!" He drinks deeply, and one is not sure if he is inebriated from the wine, or from his new-found status, or if he is giddy in love.

Salah ad-din exclaims with genuine gratitude. "If you show this much generosity and kindness to a complete stranger, your friends must be truly blessed indeed. May your pleasures be as numerous as the grains of sand in the desert. If there is even the smallest task I can perform for you, effendi, please do not hesitate to ask it of me." OCC: Allah Karim = An expression of gratitude at good fortune meaning "God (or one's god) is all-benificent".

As if reality had cast her from the cloud on which she stood, Sahra's smile faded. "I have no family, Ya'qub, no one to give a wedding befitting a man of your station." She looked to be on the verge of despair.

She looked to be on the verge of despair. Here was Waleed's chance. He knew it was the bride's family that must pay for the wedding, and although what Waleed offered was unorthodox, it would not be as scandalous as the groom having to pay for his own wedding. Rising from his pillowed comfort, Waleed cleared his throat before speaking, "Well, Sahra, I'm sure a distant cousin, say one hailing from Hiyal such as I, would be honor bound to pay for the wedding, correct? So, it must be my honor, for we are surely related by some distant bond, some alliance forged in time past, correct?" Waleed looked to Ya'qub, "Honor dictates that since Sahra has no immediate family present to pay for the wedding and it would not be right that you pay for it, a distant cousin such as I must do so." Waleed smiled ear to ear. Checkmate.

"How I have yearned to see the Great Mosque of Hajama and look upon the Scroll of the Brave with my own eyes. Truly I am blessed to be in such magnificent company!"

She looked to be on the verge of despair. At the sight of a shadow falling across the face of his beloved, Ya'qub's smile faltered. Sahra looked up at Ya'qub, deferring to him. Her face full of unspoken hope. The now-welathy caravaneer hesitated. This was certainly unheard of but Waleed had proved himself honorable... "Well-met brother!" he said with a wink at Waleed. Let the festivities begin as soon as possible! if I might have a moment to consider with you the plans... Then placing his arm around the scholar's shoulder, the two went off to a small alcove to haggle the details.

"If not in blood than surely in spirit." He cannot remember the last time he felt such warmth and joy, certainly not since the death of his poor mother nor the departure of his mentor, Jayib ibn Musheer more than two years ago. He looks about, somewhat helplessly, wishing desperately for some way to make himself useful.
